Description

♦ Name: Gavin Montague
♦ Age: Believes he stopped aging around 20; actual age unknown
♦ Birthday: Unknown
♦ Gender: Male
♦ Species: Vampire
♦ House: Thallium

✔ Strengths:

  • Enhanced senses and agility - Like many vampires, Gavin has heightened senses and agility, is capable of running at extreme speeds, and is gifted with semi-superhuman strength.
  • Academics - Gavin is sharp as a tack and is an honors student. His best subject is English, as he's a proficient reader (especially anything classic; he enjoys older novels, poems, and plays).
  • Emotional reading - Gavin can almost sense a person's aura if they're exhibiting or concealing strong emotions. Almost like a sixth sense, he can tell if someone is elated, angry, terrified, etc, even if they try to mask their feelings.

✘ Weaknesses:

  • Sunlight - Predictably, Gavin roasts in the sunlight. He wears a special ring enchanted by Emma (the art teacher) to prevent this from happening as long as he's wearing it.
  • Must be invited into a home - Gavin cannot cross the threshold of a private home or dwelling unless he is invited in by someone who resides there. This does not apply to public places or homes that don't have an owner and he only needs to be invited in once (on campus the only place this rule really applies is visiting another person's dorm room).
  • Blood dependence - Gavin has no need to eat food, and functions relying solely on blood. Typically he'll drink liquids with blood intermingled (such as having tea with blood instead of cream, etc) in order to avoid chewing on someone's neck. He can't go any more than a few days without blood or he'll start to lose his self-control. Usually he can manage himself while wearing the daylight ring, but without it, Gavin has a hard time controlling himself around someone who may be bleeding freely.

 Personality: { (+) Courteous || (+) Composed || (+) Principled || (-) Dry || (-) Serious || (-) Pedantic || (/) Reflective }

Gavin is an individual who presents himself to others with a courteous disposition, although he has a tendency to initially keep others at arm's length. He is well-mannered, although he may unintentionally tend to come off to others as dry or boring due to his tendencies to act by-the-books and pay an inordinate amount of attention to detail. If he spends enough time in the company of those he's comfortable around, Gavin shows considerably more emotion and is generally less reserved. Due to his slightly pedantic approach to things, he can easily be irked if others are lackadaisical or don't abide by rules. Gavin is just as comfortable (if not more so) spending time alone, and tends to be rather pensive and reflective in his thoughts thanks to the fact that he's more troubled about his unclear history than he lets on.

 History:
Gavin suffers from amnesia that prevents him from recalling any portion of his human life, and this fact troubles him more than he lets on. The first memory he can recall is from December of 1891, waking up cold and alone on the docks of Liverpool in England. His clothing, a tailcoat that had presumably been in fine condition, was stained red with blood and showed signs of tear that suggested there had been a struggle. A sharp pain could be felt in his neck where it appeared that two puncture wounds had been made, and an unnatural thirst burned at his throat. When he woke it had been only an hour until sunrise, and the cloudy darkness of the night was quickly being overtaken by the dusky light of dawn. He felt strangely hollow, and an aching throb from his head dripped with blood to suggest that he had been the recipient of a rather nasty head wound—one that had presumably robbed him of his memories. The only items he held in his possession were a pocket watch with the initials "G. Montague" engraved, a small photograph of a family with the words "New Orleans, 1889" carefully scripted on the back, and a substantial sum of money. These, coupled with the fact that he possessed a distinctly American accent, were his only clues to his past life.

After loosely coming to terms with the fact that he was now a supposedly fictitious creature (he had almost attacked a few early-morning dock workers but had been driven into the shadows by the first early-morning rays of sunlight), he pieced together a plan to return to America in search of his forgotten memories. Arriving in New Orleans, he didn't have to wander long to find the answers he was looking for. People greeted him with sadness in their eyes and regret in their voices, offering condolences before he could even open his mouth. Confused, he soon came under possession of a newspaper with the title: NINE LIVES CLAIMED IN MYSTERIOUS PLANTATION MANOR FIRE. Reading the article, he was horrified to learn that he came from an old-money family whose entire fortune and lineage had been destroyed by the fire whose cause was unknown. Supposedly he was the only one who hadn't been in the household at the time of the blaze, having been away in England to discuss a proposed business transaction with a company overseas.

Lacking funds and the supposed business-oriented know-how that he had once possessed, Gavin (which he came to learn was his birth name) grew accustomed to a more modest middle-class lifestyle and supported himself by taking odd-jobs. The skills he did posses and remember—horseback riding, dancing, and piano—were ill-suited for anyone but the upper-class. Although the fire seemed to suggest foul play, the police held no leads and the case was soon filed away and forgotten as the years wore on. Years passed and Gavin began to grow restless with his seemingly redundant and hard-pressed lifestyle until he heard whispers of a school located deep in the bayous that supposedly existed for the enrollment of supernatural entities. After a bit of searching, Gavin was able to find the boarding school for himself and enrolled hoping for a change of pace. He didn't stay long as the school closed a few years later, but as a result of his time there Gavin developed a taste for academic life in an environment surrounded by other supernatural creatures. Upon hearing of Vitrum Academy through similar circumstances, Gavin decided to enroll with the hopes of returning to the same type of atmosphere that the boarding school provided.

 Hobbies/Trivia:

  • Gavin stands at 5'9"
  • He doesn't have a "favorite blood type" - they all taste the same to him
  • Gavin is abnormally proficient at playing the piano, especially classical symphonies
  • Wardrobe fun facts: his favorite pattern is hounds tooth, and he literally has like 9 cat sweaters
  • He still carries his pocket watch, making sure to take it to a watchmaker every-so-often to ensure it stays ticking
  • More wardrobe fun facts: he really likes wearing aviators (though they're not pictured here) because they help his eyes on days with harsher sunlight
